Rain is falling and winters breath is in the air. Recent wet weather sent a push of of fresh Salmon and Steelhead into the Trinity River, Smith and Chetco Rivers. Recent trips to those rivers were productive. Fresh chrome bright Salmon kept the net wet.
The Smith seems to have seen its main push of fish pass through on their way to spawn. Expect to see smaller pushes of Salmon as we close out December. Get ready for Steelhead through January and February. It’ll be here before we know it!
The Chetco has been fair only because water conditions are variable due to wet, rainy weather. I think the water conditions are somewhat off due to debris/runoff from recent fires over the summer. Better days ahead. All said, we did see amazing fishing with very big Salmon and strong numbers. It was great! Expect great days of fishing on the Chetco over the coming month mixed in with blown out conditions due to rain.
The Upper Trinity has been good! Most of our Autumn run has pushed through, but there’s still loitering Steelhead to be found. It’s been a solid season so far and I’m optimistic the winter months won’t disappoint.
Over on Lake Shasta for a switch, talk about good ‘ol fun and productive fishing. We are scoring 1-2lb trout throughout the day and the smiles and laughter never cease. Ya gotta try it! Super fun!
