Lower Sacramento River is hot!

Lower Sacramento River Rainbow Trout - The Trinity Guide
Lower Sacramento River – Rainbow Trout – September 2020

The big fish are here, on this upper section of the Lower Sacramento, located in Redding California.

What’s in the future for the Lower Sacramento River and it’s wild Rainbow Trout? Once October arrives, the great fishing will continue to prevail as spawning King Salmon and lower river flows change the fishng experence from drifting deep water to opportunity along the shallow gravel bars where Rainbow Trout over 20″ are commonly found eating the stray eggs laid by spawning King Salmon.

For now, with changes on the horizon what’s working now may change but the hot bugs/flies have been:

  • S & M Hogan’s size #18
  • Poxyback PMD’s #18 ~16
  • Birds Nest #14 ~12

Long leaders, over 9′ to the split shot are getting the flies to the fish (I’m fishing under indicators.

By this time next month, the hot set up will be pegged orange beads as the Rainbows definitely key on King Salmon Eggs.

Best fly is called a “keep your eye on the indicator”. My personal secret. Works 100% of the time.

See you out on the river!
